Micky van de Ven scored twice as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to place their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the tally a short while after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine stops to guarantee the London club went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing the match official to review the goal on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates the manager's team up to third in the division, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers the Gunners.

Everton remain in 14th position and are six points ahead of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender fulfils duties at each end of the field

After a drab weekday performance in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a major concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of recognised centre-forwards - had netted only a single goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable record on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

It was not for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly delivered dangerous balls into the Spurs penalty area.
